import/checkout

I finally managed to create my first set of project files, whew! I
then imported from a source directory; so far so good. But a checkout
fails, apparently because the code is still in the directory from
which I imported it. Do I need to delete the code from the directory
before I can do an import? The book isn't exactly clear on this
point...
