svn update on a single external?

Hi,

imagine you have a directory with a lot of svn:externals.
If you change a single external there seems to be no way for svn updating
this single external. You always have to "svn update" the whole directory
in order for the change being picked up (which might take very long for
lots of externals)...any better solution available?
