How to LDAP + groups + rw/ro + apache

Hello, we're trying to setup a subversion server using apache and ldap.
The idea is to give certain users ro access to certain repos, and rw to a different set of repos, etc.

What would be the most appropriate way to accomplish it? I've been googling, but i can't find any working example config file, do you know of any?
Also, are there any known issues when there are svn:externals involved? For example, would i need to re-specify permissions for the directory to which the external is "linked" to, or something similar?

Thanks a lot in advance!
