Could not read response body: secure connection - trying to checkout a larger subset of directories

Hi,

 We have a subversion setup over https, when users try to checkout large
no of directories it breaks and throes following error.

REPORT request failed on /prod/BroilDesktop/!svn/vcc/default
Could not read response body: secure connection
truncated(https://svn-server.com)

Subversion server 1.4.3
Client tortoise svn

I have tweaked the http timeout in config file of subversion but still
no help. Is there anything we can do in the server to fix this ? Can
some help me with this pls.
