post-commit unable to run gcc -o

Hi
    I change the post-commit hook to compile the source code automatilly
when checkin
source code ,eg: in post-commit, add gcc -o foo foo.c. but gcc -o unable
to run.
Then i try other command (gcc -c foo.c) ,it is ok. would you please tell how
to solve the probleam.
