So it seems that you don't have a technical but psychological problem
to solve. I also noticed such pseudo-technical arguments just a few days
ago with one of a customer's employees. After resolving all of his
"technical problems" he just said: "OK, but I just won't use it at all
because I have never used it before." Btw. this was not related to
Subversion but to an internal Wiki which I set-up for the customer.

You have to be carefull that your colleagues won't pass the buck to you:
"All of our projects are delayed just because Oliver forced us to use
SVN instead of VSS. It's just his fault!"
