You do know that the current cvs2svn supports custom layouts during
conversion (though the documentation isn't all that hot, if I remember
correctly):

If you haven't been using the Subversion repo for very long, you could
consider redoing the conversion and reapplying the subsequent commits by
hand. It's up to you.

I actually had a large CVS repository with a bunch of mostly defunct
projects, so I converted each one to Subversion as we noticed that we
needed it, using the "options" file method mentioned above. It worked
really well, and I didn't have to do any renames in Subversion at all...
