And for that matter, Mac OS X (which is essentially FreeBSD at the Unix layer).

The advantage being a standard configuration and automatic updates so
that you don't have to worry much about configuration and still have
a reasonably secure machine.

Not free, but cheap compared with time to configure/maintain if you
just need a reliable Unix box to park something on.

(But if your IT is familiar with Windows and willing to do the
support, that may be a better option)
