Karl, the SVN repository is for a commercial product, so I can't
provide it. And I worked around it, so I no longer have a test case.
But if it happens again, I will debug it.

Lakshman, I worked around it by committing all the changes that would
commit, then I observed that the remaining files in the troublesome
dir seemed to match those in SVN. So your theory fits the observed
facts.
