svn command line authorization not working

Hi all,

My question is: Why would providing a password on the svn command line
work, but entering the password interactively not work?

You see, I am having trouble with the Unix SVN client not
authenticating users.

I have configured a working Subversion installation which uses apache
and the LDAP plugin for apache so that users can use an LDAP
username/password for authentication. This works with the windows
subversion clients that we have running on the desktops, and has been
fine for months. However, now we also want to use the subversion client
(svn) on our Unix hosts.

So I've compiled subversion on Unix, and can checkout files ok (because
that doesn't require authentication), but am having trouble with
checkins. The problem is that if the password is not provided on the
'svn ci' command line, then it prompts for a password, and even if a
correct password is provided it still fails. However, if the same
password is specified on the command line then the checkin works and
authenticates fine (and then proceeds to cache the password etc).

So, again, my quesiton is, why would providing the password on the
command line work, but entering the password interactively not work?

All responses much appreciated. Thanks.

- Andy
