Configure error with zlib

Hi to all!
I've got a problem while compiling subversion-1.4.5 under HP-UX 11i.

I'm using this command (I found it on internet related to HP-UX subversion compilation):
./configure CC=cc --without-berkeley-db --disable-nls --disable-shared
I'm not sure about this command, if you see an error here please tell me.

The fact is that after alot of output the ./configure ends with:

checking zlib.h usability... no
checking zlib.h presence... no
checking for zlib.h... no
configure: error: subversion requires zlib

I've tried some of the workaround present on web, like compiling manually the zlib
or using the --prefix option but nothing works :(

I'm not really solid about the configure/make/make-install thing so
I really appreciate every suggestion about the correct command line arguments, paths, permission to use etc etc.

Do you have any clue about that?
