Repository layout for Product family

Hi,
 
I would like some input to this:
 
We have a product family 'A'.
 
Each product in the family 'AB', 'AC' etc. should be developed on in separation, with thier own trunk, tags and branches.
But i also want to store the configuration of the whole product family. I would like to have a 'tags' directory on 'A', that marks-up a complete release of the product family.
 
Any suggestions?
