"Can't read length line" Error

Hi all,

We've seen some unpleasant behaviour from Subversion. Last Friday (at
around 16:30 of course) we were no longer able to checkout or update
using Subversion. The following was logged several times:

Can't read length line in file '/var/www/svn/mdpd/db/revs/10730' [500, #200002]

A fsck turned up nothing; svnadmin verify said everything was
perfectly fine. This morning the error doesn't show up anymore.

We have Subversion (1.4.3) installed on a VMWare box running RHEL 5.
ViewVC is running too.

I'm feeling a bit jumpy ... I've never seen this in all the time I've
been using Subversion.

Any ideas? Is 1.4.3 perhaps too new and should we be using an older
version? Is this a VMWare problem?

Cheers,
Hilco
