I do not understand why you are having a problem though. You should
only have a problem if you try to use the same working copy with a 1.3
and 1.4 client. The server version nor the version of anyone else's
client should not matter.

Sharing a working copy between a Mac and Windows computer is likely to
have other problems, such as line ending differences.
