It would help a lot if you gave us the parameters that you used to
start vss2svn. Also, did you use the precompiled binaries or did you
use the perl script from the svn sources at their site?

What do you mean: It halted?
At that step it really seems to do nothing, but in fact, it does! The
dumpfile is created as the very last thing. It takes quite a while
before you get any output.
vss2svn does generate output and gives error messages. I haven't seen
it crash just like that. But if it really does, you should definitely
report that to the developers. They do have an own mailing list!

I have no idea. The info you provide is not so much. Recently I had to
convert 2 GB of VSS data to SVN. I have tried a lot of tools, but the
only one that really works, is vss2svn. It does the job, I am sure.
