Good morning, James.
It sounds vaguely to me like a permissions problem... whatever file it is
that gets updated to show the revision number has incorrect permissions
(usually it turns out that the file is owned by root in group root, so that
no one else can write to it).
Sorry I can't be more specific (I'm a relative Subversion newbie) but let
me know if that doesn't help and I'll see if I can look into it more deeply.
