Is there any way to use the switch command cross-repository?

Is there any way to use svn switch in a way that will go
cross-repository? The code bases in each repository are very similar but
we're bringing in a project as a branch off the main trunk that was
started as its own repository. I'd like to be able to switch everyone's
working copies to point at this other repository rather than the old
ones but subversion won't let me. If working copies are disposable, why
shouldn't this be possible? We don't care about our code history because
we'll keep the old repository around for that. We just need to get
rolling on this new repos and I'm not sure how to do it and preserve
folks wc changes......

Could I perhaps get a merge changeset by having them check in all
changes to the old repo and then get the merge between my move point and
their additional changes?

Any help here is appreciated.
