containing working copy admin area is missing

Can you please tell me how can I fix this error:

svn delete --force canvas
D novcanvas/Makefile.in
svn: Directory 'canvas/src/.svn' containing working copy admin area is missing

i try to do 'svn delete --force canvas', I get the same

svn: Directory 'canvas/src/.svn' containing working copy admin area is missing
