I guess maybe you're saying that you think it runs too slow when you
use substitution for exporting the rev# withing file(s)?

Well you could certainly use a script that exports the version, then
generates the "svnGlobalRevisionNumber" file.

I think the reason people on this list (or the Subversion team) often
wants you to script your own solution is because you are asking for
yet another "custom" feature. You probably don't realize that if
every custom request were granted, from hundreds of people with their
own ideas of what Subversion should be, then it would quickly become
CVS all over again, and beyond. That's what they are trying to avoid.
