Overlayed Icon for external link

Hello all

I wonder if it is possible to mark external directories in the working
copy with special overlayed icons, so the users can see at one glance
whether or not this folder has external linkage.
I know this has the effect, that a icon-set has to be generated (like
external - "up to date" or external - "changed"). But I think this could
improve the readability of the working copy.
