extending keywords

I wonder if it's possible to extend the set of keywords.

Example:

I'd like to have a files property 'ISBN'.
(E.g. filled somehow automatically just prior to check-in.)
Than I'd like to substitute it in the text of the file
with, say, $ISBN$, on next checkout or update,
just like keywords substitution.

Do I've overlooked something?
Is such a feature out of scope?
Has somebody heard of a similar implementation?
