While I was waiting for a reply (before I saw this reply) I thought I'd
attempt to build svn from source, so I did. Now I get a more complete
error message:

root@carbon:/repo/Working-Copy/Video_Elements# svn add Backgnd-Full-001.mov
svn: Can't check path 'Backgnd-Full-001.mov': Value too large for
defined data type

Would the "Value too large for define data type" error confirm your
comment about libapr?

I'll google around for this error and see what I can find as well.
