Interesting. Storing UTF-8 names in OS-X is a bit like storing mixed-case
filenames on a PDP-11 filesystem that uses Radix-50, which only has
representations for upper case characters. The raw name is not preserved.

Are there cases where the original UTF-8 choice of encoding should be
preserved? Or is normalization always acceptable?
