Git uses its own backend. It is not related to subversion.

The Linux kernel is using git and therefore it is getting quite a bit
of use out in the field. It implements a different set of features
from svn and they do not have a completely overlapping set of
features. In some circumstances I use git. In others cases I use
svn. Each has particular advantages.
