Timeout issues on Linux....but not on Windows

I realize that this is a complicated set of issues but I would
appreciate some insight greatly.

I'm having problems pulling revisions from an SVN repository from my
Linux box. Said box is connected directly to the internet and runs
some simple firewall rules. The repository is served from a Linux box
with Apache over HTTPS. Sometimes when I pull (svn checkout, svn
update, and even svk sync) the program will hang until I kill it. If I
retry right away it usually starts working just fine.

Doing the same things on my Windows XP laptop, which is behind the
linux box in my network (so the firewall isn't likely the issue) with
TortoiseSVN or a win32 build of svk never have this hanging issue.

Does anyone know why this might be?
