Sorting List Messages in Outlook and an extra space in the subject

All,
 
I subscribe to a number of lists, and put the messages from each list in
a separate folder in Outlook 2K3. In all cases (except this list) I can
sort the messages in the folder by subject and the messages will thread,
that is the original message and it's replies will stay together ('Re'
is ignored). In the case of messages from this list, the 'Re' is honored
so nothing sorts w/the original message.
 
I'm guessing that this has something to do with an extra space at the
start of the subject line. Every message from this list starts with one
blank space at the beginning of the subject.
 
Has anyone experienced this, and is there any reason for that one
leading blank space? If not, can it be removed?
