HTTP Connection lost when trying to commit a large number of files

Hi,
when I try to commit a large number of files (more than 2500) at once,
the process loses the HTTP connection after some time and the whole
commit fails. The message says some PROPFIND problem, but the file can
be committed when only committing the single file.
I'm running the subversion 1.4.2 server with apache 2 on a Fedora Box.
The client is windows XP I tried the command line client and TSVN.
I already activated deflate on the server in order to reduce the network
load and tried several times when the network load in general is low
(e.g. very early in the morning)
Thanks to let me know how to solve the problem.
