I like this theory a lot. However, on my system the parent of this
thread is dated 3 days *before* Bill's message. The first reply in the
thread is stamped about 15 minutes before Bill's message as well. Did my
mailserver perhaps reorder things a bit?

Its a good theory though. The OP followed Bill's instructions to the T.
It tempting to picture him at work waiting for all the promised helpful
replies to start rolling in.
