I don't see a problem with adding properties to a large number of source
files. Other systems do that, like Trac [1].

 

Property name length should add a trivial amount to the total repository
size. A pittance to pay for improved readability and comprehension.

 

You may not want to use colons in the names due to problems with XML
wellformedness in DAV, as reported by Conor at Cenqua working on Fisheye
[2]. They opted for a mytool_myproperty naming convention.
