I have--I used to work for a company that burned patient data to CDs to
mail to physicians, and any CD that wasn't sent out (test burns, failed
checksum, etc.) had to get shredded for HIPAA. It's pretty impressive
watching a little machine rip a CD to shreds. :-) That said, I don't
believe they used the shredder for old backups.
