It does work. I just used it a couple days ago when I changed my
email address on this list. You send a message to users-
unsubscribe@subversion.tigris.org. You will receive a reply from
users-help@subversion.tigris.org with instructions for how to confirm
your unsubscription. Make sure your spam filter doesn't discard this
message. Follow the instructions in the message and you'll be
unsubscribed. This confirmation system is in place to prevent people
from maliciously unsubscribing you.
