[The svn server could be a separate machine. And it is certainly
less common to have a Windows server doing multiple jobs than it
is for a *nix server. At least that's what our basement looks like]

Better integration for one. Apache and Subversion come bundled with
the 'big' distributions. No need to hunt down individual packages.
Ever tried to setup Apache + Svn + LDAP authentication + SSL
under Windows? I did. Strictly no fun. The combo ran out-of-the-box
on SuSE (9.2, not touched since then).

Remote administration. Scriptability. Predictability. Performance.
Probably quite a few more.
