Yes to all your questions, for more details, please see
http://subversion.tigris.org and review the links for graphical interface
applications as well as add-ins for Visual Studio.

In regards to Visual Source Safe vs. Subversion. Subversion is far
superior, but will require your to rethink how you perform source control.
A simple Google search with ŒSubversion Visual Source Safeš turned up this
as a link: http://www.wadhome.org/svn_vs_vss.txt that might be of interest.
