Hi Kenneth,
As he's working on windows I would recommend to take a look at tortoiseSVN. It's by far the most easy to use interface for people familiar with using GUIs to do their work. It blends in with the regular file manager and is nearly as feature rich as the subversion command line client. Me and my collegues use it a work and we haven't been down to the command line since we deployed it. You can use it to set up a local repository if you don't want to mess with a server. It's available at http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org
Regards,
Lars.
