Anything EXCEPT Red Hat...gawd what POC!

I had a pretty easy time with Ubuntu 5.1.0. <3 apt-get.

I had Apache2, Subversion, and Trac, mod_python, and mod_perl (for
multiple Trac project support) all running in pretty short order. I will
say that I did install Trac manually (is there even an apt source for
Trac?) but that's pretty easy to do.

I recently tried this setup with Gentoo and it was pretty painless.

With Gentoo, I only had to emerge Apache2, SVN and Trac (although you have
to massage the portage config to get it to pick up SVN 1.3.0 as the latest
'stable' version is still pegged at 1.2.3) and I was off to the races. I
only really had to setup the Apache config semi-manually, and switch the
module load order around to get HTTPS access configured elegantly.

All in all a good experience so far.

On Fedora you'll probably run into some issues getting the python bindings
to work, which will affect your ability to setup Trac using mod_python.
Red Hat 9 is not a bad option if the box will be dedicated to SVN like you
mentioned and you're not hung up on not having the latest & greatest of
everything. Our RH9 based SVN server has been running issue-free for over
18 months now and it's a breeze to install as long as you know what you're
doing.

Cheers
Rob
