newbie question: http access on solaris not working

Does anyone know what the following means?

Just in the process of trying out subversion 1.2.3. I've installed
Apache 2.0.54 and svn 1.2.3 on my Solaris-10 box. So far as I can tell,
I can do svnadmin, avnlook, and svn import ok. Trouble happens when I
try to look at stuff using web browser, or try to co using the http url.

here is what I see in the Apache error_log any time I try to access any
kind of info via web url:

[Fri Jan 13 15:08:08 2006] [error] [client x.x.x.x] Could not fetch
resource information. [500, #0]
[Fri Jan 13 15:08:08 2006] [error] [client x.x.x.x] Could not open the
root of the repository [500, #160004]
[Fri Jan 13 15:08:08 2006] [error] [client x.x.x.x] Final line in
revision file longer than 64 characters [500, #160004]

doesn't make any sense to me, and nothing like this within the book or
the email archives afaik.
