It was late and I was tired, so I thought it could be a good idea to
just use a GUI tool for downloading/configuring all the stuff instead
of studying a man page to avoid possible hassle with the CLI version.
But in fact, the CLI version seems superior to the somewhat sluggish
and completely carbonized Mac-unlike GUI version (not wanting to
start kind of a rant here)!
The installation went flawless (I had to remove the previous
installed version of subversion, though), and now I'm browsing my
first repository experiments via web browser :-)
