Install subversion above a previous version

Hi all,

I installed subversion 1.2.1 from sources on a linux box few months
ago. Now I want to update to 1.2.3 (expecially for svn st -u issue
against 1.1.x servers). I thinked to have 2 possibilities:
* install a svn*-1.2.3
-> but neither --program-suffix nor --program-tranform-name modify modify sth.
* install a svn above the previous one
-> but I have no ideas of possible consequences of this installation.

My question is:
Is it safe to re-install a newer minor version of subversion above a
previous one ?

Note: I generate swig bindings and I used to play with svk too.

Thanks,
Regards,
Manuel
