svn co file:///repo/etc/shadow and BAD file permissions

Hello, this is my first post to the list.

 

I put /etc under a repository, but when I checkout the /etc project from the
repository, I get really bad permissions in the files. /etc/shadow,
/etc/ssh/priv.key and the like.

 

My question is: How can I checkout the /etc project and maintain the correct
file permissions _after_ checkout?
