Indeed, it sounds like you want rsync. Subversion is for version control, which means it keeps a copy of EVERY single version. There is a binary diffing algorithm that is implemented that should help keep down file size. However, you should run tests with some different versions of the same file to see what kind of sizing requirements you'll actually have.
