I am also interested in seeing this functionality working since we have
groups here who just want to check out parts of the repository that they
work on and exclude the rest of the repository for space and performance
purposes.

The bug ticket says that it is targeted for release 2.0. We should be
moving the rest of our department to SVN in the next several months and
it would be nice to have this by then but I do not suppose that a 2.0
release target for this bug would put it soon enough for us.
