status and commit with externals

Hi

I have a WC with different folders from different origins, put together with
the help of svn:external. If I do a 'status' svn will recurse through all these
folders and show the state of the files. But when I do a 'commit' svn will
only do the local files and not follow the externals.

Is there a possibility that status and commit behave the same? So either
have both follow the externals (preferred) or both not following external?
