Please read the SubVersion book, chapter 4 explains everything about tagging
and branching:

Note that tagging in SubVersion is different from what you're used in CVS.
While you may find SubVersions way of doing things strange at first you'll
notice after a while that it is in fact more intuitive than CVS (where a file
can have multiple "dimensions", where in SubVersion there is always only
one).
