I don't think it would be that bad. The editor would still open and
the user would have to exit it before the commit happens. They would
see what was going to be used and have the opportunity to fix it if
it wasn't the correct message. All of that only happens when the
first commit doesn't go through smoothly anyway. Seems like a
reasonable change to me.
