I was hoping that someone more clueful would answer, but it looks like
you've got everyone stumped.

If I'm reading correctly, this error means Subversion doesn't know how
to handle the type of authentication requested. I don't see why it's
commit-specific, though. Just to be sure I'm not making bad
assumptions, could you let us know a few more details?

What's the access control for the repository?
Do you have cached credentials for this repository somewhere in
~/.subversion/...?
Will the OS X client access other repositories without problems?
