You should likely read the section of the book on auto-props to make
sure it is going to do what you think it will and want it to:

In there you'll see that these properties are *only* applied to files
added or imported. Files already in the repository will not be changed.

But an explicit example is not given for the ~/.subversion/config
file.
Patches for the svn book are encouraged if you'd like to help new users!
