Well, I cannot help you with the MS side of things, but in the Unix/C-C++ World
this is easiy solved by a make rule like:

aboutbox.o: aboutbox.c
        cc -DREVISION=$(shell svn info . | awk ' /^Revision:/ { print $2 } ' -c -o aboutbox.o aboutbox.c

Problem solved :)
