Though there are many clients, there might be a standart way to call external
script/filer. Then everybody could use the same perl or python script to do
formatting, verification or whatever they like. These scripts would be
crafted to run on every platform on which developers happen to work. The
to-be-committed text would be piped thought them, or even better, committed
twice (before reformatting and after reformatting), as was suggested
previously in this list.

If this standartisation will not overburden clients and their developers, this
could be a nice thing to have.

(Although personally I am sceptical about automatic formatting on commit, and
automatic formatting in general... But that are my tastes, nothing more :)
