Yes and yes. Each need should be recognized. But the work of the 'core'
developers should be driven by the needs of the majority. So a more
appropriate response from Karl could have been...

"Hi, no we do not have any plans to implement such a feature in
Subversion. In general, development is driven by the needs of the
majority of our user community. As such, your particular need has not
been reflected by a large part of our users. Perhaps you could either
work with the members of the dev@ list to implement a solution on your
own or try to drum up support from the general user population."

...don't you think?
