That only works for installed packages, which is not so useful when trying
to find what one needs to install...

If you're using the SunFreeware gcc, then you need the "real"
Sun ld, as, etc in /usr/ccs/bin, although it doesn't need to
be in your path, since gcc is configured to look there. The
good news is there is a list of the required SUNW* packages at
http://www.sunfreeware.com/faq.html#q5, which would have saved me
considerable time if I'd found it earlier. But who reads FAQs? :-)
